Ever dreamed of seeing your own writing appear on the screen when typing? If so, you are in the right place to discover how to do it
There are two types of font that you might want to create yourself: a rather normal and readable font for text and paragraphs, or an extravagant or atypical font for titles, a logo, or other needs of graphic design.
There are two ways to create a font: either draw it by hand and then scan it with font creation software, or design it entirely on a computer with online tools or software like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator .
Create a Handwriting Font
Using your own ‘digitized’ or ‘digitized’ handwritten font is a fun experience, even if it’s just for fun rather than for professional use. After some research, I found software offering this service, but all very expensive.
In my opinion, the best solution is the YourFont online service, the only material needed being a pen, a printer and a scanner. In 5 min the trick is played and you can download and install your own handwritten font on your computer.
The first step is to download and print the template in which you will write your own script. Take your time and respect the lateral marks as explained on the website otherwise the result is not optimal and it will start again. Yes … it happened to me many times, so I strongly recommend the use of a pencil.
Then scan the template at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (Mac users can use Preview) and upload the files to the site.
YourFont then shows you a preview of the final result, feel free to write what you want in the “Add custom text” box to see an example of the final result.
A script is preferable to cursive writing, it is almost impossible to obtain natural links between the letters by writing them separately from one box to another.
In the example below, the “n”, the “m”, the “o”, and the “a” have to be redone.
Once the preview is right for you, the font is downloadable for a few euros, just over the price of a pack of cigarettes. It is not free but it is very little compared to the average price of software that offer this service.
All you have to do is install the font on your computer so that it is available in all software that uses the Font Book.
Create a Free Font Online
FontStruct is a free online service where you can create a font through “bricks” of different shapes. Here no question of calligraphy, it is necessary to “build” his font in the manner of a mason who climbs a wall in cinderblock. I tried other free solutions but this is by far the best.
The interface is intuitive and requires a relatively short handling time compared to the number of features. A graphics tablet is still almost essential if you want to avoid having the wrist on fire arrived at the capital D.
Talking about all the possible tips and tricks of FontStruct could be the subject of a whole article, better try them yourself.
